Everything from Apple WWDC 2015

Yesterday, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced several new things at their large developer conference, WWDC. If you did not sit through the keynote, here's everything from WWDC 2015. The conference did not start as usual with impressive figures presented by Tim Cook, this time he contented himself with saying, "everything is going great." Then Cook hands the stage over to Craig Federighi who reveals the latest news about OS X.

He says that OS X Yosemite had the fastest adoption rate of any PC operating system in history. Then he presents OS X El Capitan, which is the name of their new operating system for Mac. It focuses primarily on performance but have some other updates too. Spotlight has been improved, it has become easier to manage all of your windows, and with Pinned Sites in Safari your favorite sites are always available and up to date in a tab. OS X El Capitan is available as a developer beta now and will be available free for download worldwide this fall.

Thereafter they present iOS 9 and its new features. Above all, have Siri och Spotlight received some updates, for example, if you want to be reminded of something you saw in Safari, your device can remind you to read that page. And in Spotlight, your device will suggest recent contacts, apps, or places you may be interested in. Jennifer Bailey, a 10-year Apple veteran, and Vice President of internet Services, then takes the stage to talk about Apple Pay. We get to hear som numbers and that Apple Pay will launch across the United Kingdom in July. In addition, they're changing the name of their app Passbook to Wallet, which will be a place for all you credit and debit cards, rewards cards, boarding pass, tickets and more.

More apps that have been updated are Notes and Maps. The Note app become much better with many more features and Maps has been updated with directions for public transportation in some large cities. Apple also announced a new app that is called News, which brings you stories you love, beautifully designed, all in one place. Personalized for you. Publishers will retain 100% of the revenue from ads they sell, and 70% when iAd sells ads for them. News will be available in the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. I'm really looking forward to testing this app, I think it will become a large platform.

More updates in iOS 9 are revealed when you use an iPad as they have finally released several long-awaited features. Slide Over lets you open a second app without leaving the one you're in. Split View allows two apps to be open and active at the same time on the same screen. These new features will enable you to work much more productively with an iPad. iOS 9 also takes less free space than iOS 8 to install. So it's easier than ever for you to update. Apple has also updated watchOS 2 for Apple Watch with new faces, features, and functions. Among other things, you will be able to see information from third-party apps on your watch face and by turning the Digital Crown, Time Travel lets you see things like upcoming events and temperatures.

Another thing they announced was that Swift will be open source later this year, available for iOS, OS X, and Linux. HomeKit has also been updated and supports new accessories like home security systems and mechanical blinds. Lastly, Tim Cook ended the keynote with the traditional "one more thing" tease. Apple officially confirmed Apple Music, its streaming service powered by iTunes. I previously wrote a post after Spotify updated its app and talked about Apple and that they will become a hard competitor: Spotify Prepares For War Against Apple

To talk more about Apple Music, Beats' Jimmy Iovine went on stage. He says Apple Music will give users "the right song, at the right moment". One way of doing this is via its radio station, Beats1. It's a 24/7 global radio station, hosted by former BBC Radio One DJ Zane Lowe. Apple hopes to not only play great music, but also help users discover new content. Then Apple got Drake on stage to talk about Connect and how musicians can connect to their fans. Apple Music will launch on June 30 with a three-month free subscription and afterward $9.99 a month. A family plan will also be available for $14.99 a month with up to six members. Android support is coming in the fall.

There is not much that distinguishes Apple Music from other music streaming services. However, Apple has a brand loyalty without equal, not to mention over 800 million iTunes accounts. That was everything from WWDC 2015. Were you disappointed or happily surprised? What I lacked was their new Apple TV but we should hopefully see it later this year. If you want to know why I own Apple as a long term investment, I have written a post which you can read here:
