Everything from Apple WWDC 2015

Yesterday, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) announced several new things at their large developer conference, WWDC. If you did not sit through the keynote, here's everything from WWDC 2015. The conference did not start as usual with impressive figures presented by Tim Cook, this time he contented himself with saying, "everything is going great." Then Cook hands the stage over to Craig Federighi who reveals the latest news about OS X.

What The Apple Guys Are Saying About Google I/O

Neil Cybart, Above Avelon: "Google I/O reinforced to me that Google and Apple are truly thinking about mobile differently. Google’s mission is solving problems by meeting at the intersection of technology and computer science. And they are doing a great job. Apple is focused on making technology more personal by combining technology and liberal arts. And they are doing a great job. Apple and Google are guided by different philosophies, which complicates much of the Apple vs. Google talk found in the media and press."

Spotify Prepares For War Against Apple

At a press conference in New York last week, Spotify announced several new features, including video content, podcasts, and a new running function. Many see it as that Spotify want to start compete with Youtube, snapchat, and other video sites, I don't think so. In a previous post, I wrote that Spotify's video service would become a competitor to Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLXand HBO. Obviously, they chose a different route, instead of adding series you will be able to check videos and news clips, listen to podcasts, and get news updates. This entertainment content will be provided by ABC, BBC, Comedy Central, Condé Nast, ESPN, Fusion, Maker Studios, NBC, TED, and Vice Media. I do not see this as something offensive from Spotify but more of a defensive strategy, and I'll explain why.

Read This Before You Sell LinkedIn

LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD) shares have fallen about 25% in the last month after they reported Q1 results on April 30. If you are an investor who is looking to sell the stock, take a deep breath, and read this post. The thing is that LinkedIn's first quarter results were actually solid. The company's revenue was $638 million and EPS was $0.57 which was in line with what Wall Street was expecting if not slightly better. How is it then that the share price dropped? The answer is that LinkedIn lowered the guidance for the rest of the year. Earlier they expected revenue of $2.93 - $2.95 billion and EPS of $2.95 for 2015. Their new guidance figures for this year was a revenue of $2.9 billion and EPS of $1.90. As you can see, the big change was that earnings per share fell from $2.95 to $1.90. The company's management said that the main reason for the reduced EPS outlook was their acquisition of lynda.com, a leading online learning company.

Infographic: 26 Crazy Facts You Never Knew About Google

Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) has a very strong culture within the company and, by the way is, the world's largest search engine. You probably already knew this but did you know that company's original name was Backrub? They used this name because they were based on a system finding and ranking pages based on backlinks. There are many more puzzling facts you never knew about the search engine. One story says investors misspelled the mathematical term "googol" as "google" on a check, and the spelling stuck. Another story says that a fellow student misspelled "googol" when looking for an available name for the company. Google has averaged a new company acquisition each week since 2010. Google rents 200 goats to "mow" the weed around headquarters. The Google Street View has about 28 million miles of photographed roads. From the outset, Google has worked hard to be unconventional and innovative. As an archetype of the modern tech company, Google continues to set the bar for the interesting, offbeat, and creative. Check this infographic below for more crazy facts you never knew about Google.

Now It's Official, Tesla Is An Energy Company

That Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) would introduce a new product, and that it had something with batteries to do was nothing unexpected. Elon Musk began the presentation by talking our environment. That CO2 emissions are increasing and accelerating because the most of the energy is generated with fossil fuels. If we do nothing, it's headed to levels that our earth will not be able to handle. Musk wants to do something about this, he has previously said that Tesla's goal is accelerate the variety to sustainable energy. For that reason, he talked about the sun and the surface of solar panels required to power the entire US. Musk is also co-founder of Solar City (NASDAQ: SCTY) and says that solar power will be our primary energy source in the future. "We have this handy fusion reactor in the sky called the sun. You don't have to do anything, it just works, shows up every day and produce ridiculous amounts of power." However, the sun does not shine at night, therefore you need to store power gathered by solar panels. And you need something to store energy, namely a battery.

Xiaomi threat to Apple?

Xiaomi is criticized for copying Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) when it comes to design, and this together with low prices has given them great success. Xiaomi recently surpassed Samsung (KSE: 005930.KS) to become the largest smartphone company in China (if you look at the number of units sold. It's important to keep in mind that Xiaomi has razor-thin margins because of their low-priced devices. This is not true when you look at Apple, they have extraordinary high margins. Apple's operating profit margin is approximately 28%, by comparison, was Xiaomi's operating profit margin just 1% in 2013, according to a Xiaomi financial filing. Since the company is privately-held, is it difficult to analyze their business. However, many believe that Xiaomi is planning on going public soon, we will have to wait and see.

The Battle Of Tech Ecosystems: Amazon, Apple, Google & Microsoft

There are many advantages of using the same ecosystem for your computer, tablet and smartphone. Devices within the same ecosystem are designed to work well with each other. They syncs simple so all your data becomes available on all your devices. It may be possible that the applications that you bought will work on multiple devices at the same time. The user interfaces are usually similar or identical across all devices. An ecosystem is not only beneficial for users, it's a gold mine for tech companies. If you are using an iPhone, it's more likely that you use safari than someone who doesn't use an iPhone. If you use Google Chrome, it's more likely that you use Gmail than people who don't use Chrome. If you use Microsoft Office you are more likely to use Skype than someone who does not use Office. I think you get it. This is good for business, and tech companies seem to be more aware of this than ever before.

Are We In A Biotech Bubble?

There is much talk about a bubble in the stock market, but do we need to be concerned? The question is whether we will experience a dot-com bubble or housing bubble again. The answer is that no one knows, however, today it seems people are, instead of a tech bubble, afraid of a biotech bubble. According to Bloomberg News, have Nasdaq's biotech companies given a return of 500% to shareholders, compared with 97% for the Nasdaq's Internet stocks. Investors' pessimism becomes clear when we look at the short interest ratio that have doubled for the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index since 2013, according to data from Bloomberg. Nasdaq is currently traded at average 2.3 times annual sales while their biotech companies are trading at 10 times annual sales.

Infographic: How Steve Jobs Started

Steve Jobs is considered one of the greatest innovators of all time. He was a Silicon Valley entrepreneur and businessman and well known as a pioneer in the tech industry. Steve Jobs was co-founder and CEO of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) which is now the world's most valuable company. He was also co-founder and CEO of Pixar who later was acquired by The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) that he became a board member of. He really has accomplished many successful things during his life, he has certainly inspired many, I'm one of them. This infographic shows his life in a different way but interesting way. After I saw this timeline everything became clearer and it all fit together. You will get a good overview with this timeline of Apple's founder, Steve Jobs. Check it out below:

Is LinkedIn A Good Investment?

LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD), which is a professional social network, launched in 2003 and went public in 2011. The company is considered by many to be overvalued (as many other tech companies). In this post, we will try to find out if the stock is worth buying or not. I can say right away that I own shares and will highlight the reasons why. LinkedIn has really become the largest professional social network on the market which gives them much tailwind. If you are looking for a job, you don't want to a service that have a couple of job listings. You want to go to LinkedIn, where all other lists their jobs. LinkedIn has 350 million members, which is up 25% YOY (Year Over Year) and around 100 million use it every month.

Tech Companies Will Take Over The Automotive Industry

Automakers have in recent years spent a lot of money on advanced cruise control, vehicle awareness system, and lots of other technologies. Electronics in cars is constantly increasing and there is a competition about who has the best technology and interior. This creates significant growth opportunities for tech companies to develop electronics that is integrated with the car. Much is written about this right now, that's the connected-car. The latest cars are equipped with Internet connections and software which you can use to stream music, search the web, be alerted with weather forecast and traffic conditions. Even driving assistance services such as self-parking and self-driving is now available to a certain extent. This development is going very fast and everyone seems to agree that self-driving cars are the future. Automakers are pouring resources into automated driving right now. For example, have both Ford (NYSE: F) and Nissan (Other OTC: NSANY) opened research labs in Silicon Valley and basically everyone else in the automotive industry is involved in this development.

Apple 'Spring Forward' Event

Last week, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) had an event in San Francisco and it surpassed my expectations. I'll be head-on and say that it was the new MacBook which seemed much better than what I expected. But let me start to get you updated on the Apple Watch that this event was intended for. Before I start to mention all the details I will tell you some good news. It has been a big discussion about its battery life, people have been worried that the battery would not last a full day. Apple now says that the battery will last up to 18 hours which will probably be enough. But we will have to wait and see if the battery last long enough once people get their hands on the Apple Watch. Another thing that was uncertain, until Monday, was exactly how waterproof the watch actually would be. Tim Cook has previously said that he showers with his Apple Watch. After that, Apple updated its site with more details it was found that Apple Watch follows the standard IPX7. This means that the watch can withstand gently lowered into water to one meter for 30 minutes, you can wash your hands, work out so you sweat, go through rain and maybe take a shower if you do not have too high water pressure. However, you will not be able to bathe or swim with it.

Infographic: Should You Invest In Facebook?

Facebook (NASDAQ: FB), the popular social network, went public on May 18, 2012. (Unfortunately did Nasdaq get some technical problems on its first trading day.) The stock has had its ups and downs since then and is now at all time high levels. But is this stock a good investment today? I know relatively lot about the company but do not feel confident enough to own shares. I will not give advice on buying or selling today because I do not feel sufficiently well-read. According to me, there are better tech stocks to own right now. But there is growth potential in Facebook, their advertising revenues could continue to grow rapidly in the coming years. In addition, they own Instagram and WhatsApp, which has high values because of the large number of users. I will do a detailed analysis of Facebook in future posts. This infographic goes through investment opportunities in Facebook and facts and figures around some of the concerns investors may have, check it out below:

What Investor Ashton Kutcher Looks For In Tech Companies

Ashton Kutcher is perhaps most recognized as an actor but is also a successful Silicon Valley investors. He has been interested in technology since he was young and first studied to become a chemical engineer at the University of Iowa. Obviously, it didn't turn out that way and instead he became an actor and began investing primarily in media companies. Then Kutcher was hired as a product engineer at Lenovo (Hong Kong: 0992.HK) in 2013, his interest in technology becomes more obvious all the time. “It’s the same interest that made me do a magic show. I want to know how it works, and I want to help solve problems through technology,” he has said.

It's Time To Buy InvenSense

InvenSense (NYSE: INVN) is a company I have invested in and I'll tell you why. The company is a world leader in intelligent sensor systems on chip (SoC) for motion and sound in consumer electronic devices. More precisely, they manufactures and sells micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) sensors (such as gyroscopes, accelerometers, compasses and pressure sensors) for motion tracking devices and also microphones. This is something that is needed in a variety of things such as smartphones, tablets, drones, robots and wearables. To give you a better idea of what the technology does, when you are playing a game on your smartphone sensors are used to keep track of the devices movement so that the app can work correctly.

Tesla Is More Than A Car Company

If you are well-read on Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA), you'll realize that they will do much more than make electric cars in the future. I will explain why and things that differentiate them from other automakers. Above all, many say that Tesla acts more like a technology company than a car company. First I want to mention their Gigafactory which Tesla last year decided, in collaboration with Panasonic to build and it will produce lithium-ion batteries for their electric cars. The Gigafactory will cost $5 billion to build, Tesla and Panasonic will invest approximately $2 billion each and the rest will industrial partners and the state of Nevada pay. With the help of the factory, is the cost of their car batteries gonna decrease by at least 30%.

What's Next For Spotify?

Spotify, the popular music streaming service is expected to go public next year writes The Wall Street Journal. Spotify was founded 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden. It's said that they are working to collect half a billion dollars in venture capital with the help of Goldman Sachs. The company is today worth about $6 billion and has approximately 60 million customers, of which 15 million is paying users. The number of paying users is growing rapidly and is up 50% since May last year. It costs $10 per month for using their premium service, and the majority of the revenue goes to the record companies who license the artist's music. They also have a freemium service where you can listen to music for free with advertising. But advertising only accounts for 15% of the revenue, the rest does their subscriptions stand for.

Want To Invest In The Drone Revolution?

When people hear the word "drone" (which properly named UAV, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) they usually think of unmanned military aircrafts used in war areas. But this has changed after Jeff Bezos, CEO at Amazon (AMZN), in 2013 said that they want to deliver packages via drones already in 2015. The public then began to open their eyes to the commercial drone market that will occur. I will tell you about companies that will benefit from the many applications and markets that are about to be created. Drones will continually take more and bigger roles in our society every year, eventually they will be a part of your everyday life. It can be difficult to speculate in tech companies in the short-term, but it's easier in the long-term. It's important to always try to think ahead so that when the market realizes some technological changes, you are already well-read and prepared yourself on how to invest. In the future will drones do everything from delivering food and e-commerce to security and above all help farmers manage their crops.

Apple Just Had The Most Profitable Quarter Of Any Company In History

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPLpresented on Tuesday (January 27th) the largest quarterly profit that a company has ever reported, $18.04 billion. (The previous record was held by Gazprom that earned $16.24 billion in 90 days.) Apple's profit was $5 billion more than last year, to put it in perspective, Microsoft's entire quarterly profit was this year $5.8 billion. The majority, more correctly 69%, of Apple's revenue came naturally from iPhones sales. Apple sold incredible 74.5 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of 2014, in other words, 34,000 iPhone every hour, around the clock. Wall Street was expecting 65 million, it was only a few individual analysts who predicted that Apple would sell over 70 million iPhones. Tim Cook, Apple's CEO said the following. "Our revenue grew 30 percent over last year to $74.6 billion, and the execution by our teams to achieve these results was simply phenomenal." And now have several of the analysts on Wall Street raised the target price for the shares to between 130 and 150 dollars. Carl Icahn, the billionaire who previously bought 45 million Apple shares, however, considers that the analysts target prices are far too low. Self, he expects that the shares will rise to at least $203. (At the end of this post will you see a technical analysis of the stock.)

Infographic: Eccentric Habits Of The Tech Elite

This is an infographic about the tech elite's eccentric habits. To know the habits of successful tech leaders can be interesting and they could be able to help others. It’s often true that genius and madness are often two sides of the same coin, so it shouldn’t surprise you that the elite figures of the technology world all have their own eccentric habits and hobbies. Here are just a few of the ways that the tech elite keep themselves inspired. The tech elite includes; Bill Gates, Yoshiro Nakamatsu (Dr. Nakamats), Jeff Bezos, Nikola Tesla, John C. Havens, Anna Akbari, Joel Gascoigne, Kevin Systrom, Mark Zuckerberg, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Steve Jobs. Does this elite group have any habit that can help you improve yourself? 1 Big Reason Why You Shouldn't Buy Microsoft

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) is a dinosaur among tech companies but is Microsoft a good investment? As in any stock, people have different opinions, I myself do not own Microsoft and I will explain why. Microsoft may well give a good return, but their future looks uncertain in my eyes. The share consolidated and moved sideways between 2010-2013, however, the stock have since then risen amazing 80%. Microsoft's stock may not perform poorly in the future, but there are better high-growth stocks to buy. I will go through their business and tell you why you shouldn't buy Microsoft.

Why Tesla Has Been So Successful

Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA), as you have probably heard of in the media, is a California-based, US company that makes electric cars. The stock has risen about 600% since 2013 and it has received enormous attention in the media. In September last year did the stock peak at $289 and since then have it been on a downward trend in recent months, shares now stands at $192. However, if we look long-term at the stock, we see that there is a rising trend although it has slowed down lately. Hedge funds and major players have left the stock and many day traders have come, this has led to a high volatility in the stock. Tesla's valuation is something controversial, if you look at how many cars they sell, you could argue that the stock is overpriced. Tesla is currently valued at nearly half of example, General Motors (NYSE: GM) that sells a thousand times more cars than Tesla. But Tesla has a very high growth rate, I will talk more about their valuation and figures ahead.

How To Invest In Artificial Intelligence

A difficult question to answer is how to invest in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Much has been written about AI in the media in the past week, it started with an Open letter that warned about the development of AI. The open letter and Research from the Future of Life Institute (FLI) have investigated how we can prevent AI to act in an unwanted and destructive way. The Institute's scientific advisory board include, for instance, Elon Musk, Tesla (TSLA) and SpaceX co-founder, and the physicist Stephen Hawking. Elon Musk has previously warned that AI is mankind's biggest threat, "Building intelligent machines is like summoning the demon", said Musk. AI research is progressing steadily, governments and companies are investing billions in development. It feels like all the big tech companies invest in AI right now, does that mean that you should also do it? Google (GOOG), Apple (AAPL), IBM (IBM), Microsoft (MSFT), Baidu (BIDU), eBay (EBAY), Yahoo (YHOO), Amazon (AMZN) and Facebook (FB) all have multiple large investments in AI and there are continuously new acquisitions(I will go through the companies and their businesses in future posts.)

Intuitive Aerial Shares Rise 10% In First Trading Day

Intuitive Aerial AB (STOCKHOLM: INTU) was today (2015-01-13) listed on First North at Nasdaq Stockholm. The listing on First North became successful and the stock rose +10% in the first trading day. Intuitive Aerial is a very small company which started in 2010 as a spin-off from Linköping University in Sweden. They manufacture and sell Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAS) or so-called drones, to the most demanding customers in film and broadcast. The company was previously named one of Sweden's 33 hottest technology companies by Affärsvärlden and Ny Teknik (two well-known Swedish newspapers). Sales have more than doubled each year since the business started in 2010.

Should You Invest In Box?

The California-based company Box Inc. will go public early this year, in January 23 (update: shares surged over 65%). Box is an online file sharing and personal cloud content management services for businesses, in other words, a storage platform company. For the company to grow faster they introduced a "freemium" business model in 2006 and after that they got a massive Increase of users (hundreds of thousands each quarter). CEO and Co-founder Aaron Levie and his team realized the cost of storage would reduce drastically so they lowered the barrier to product adoption to increase customers. Today you get up to 10 GB free storage via a private account. Box currently have over 32 million users and over 44,000 organizations who pay for their service, nearly 50% of Fortune 500 companies are paying customers.

CES 2015: Amazing Products You Must See

International CES (Consumer Electronic Show) is a well-recognized electronics and technology trade show which attracts large companies and professionals worldwide. The annual show is held each January at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. (You who  was looking for the Apple booth, the U.S. device maker always feel present but never attends at the fair.) CES is among the biggest things that happen every year for us interested in tech, it presents a variety of innovative electronics and technology at the show and it's no exception this year. It can be difficult to keep updated on all new products coming and you do not want to miss anything cool. Of the large amount of things that were presented have I selected the best products from the fair. Unfortunately, there are many privately-held companies that you can't invest in but it's important to keep yourself updated with all the new technology. It's constantly acquisitions among the tech companies and in recent times the pace has increased enormously. You will be impressed by the products presented at CES 2015, below you will see the best products this year.

My First Stock: Apple

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) my first stock investment. I read a lot about technology and very much is written about Apple in the media. Their business model is very simple and easy to understand and I feel comfortable with being a shareholder in the company. I bought AAPL when the shares stood at about $74, I thought that Apple was undervalued especially relative to the potential growth opportunities. The stock has risen substantially since then and today are shares at $112, which is a gain of +50% (I know what you think 'lucky bastard'). The stock were previously at $119 and I think it has good potential to rise above $125 in 2015. Additionally, Apple has a dividend of 1.68% today (2015-01-08), which will probably increase in the future because of their large capital. As you can see in the picture below, the majority of Apple's revenue is coming from the sales of iPhones. It may feel unstable that the iPhone represents such a large portion of the revenue but with new services and products in the future, I believe that the revenues will be distributed more evenly. Apple recently released Apple Watch and Apple Pay and I believe both will become successes. In addition, Apple acquired the company Beats (Beats Music & Beats Electronics) in March 2014. I think that Beats Music will be integrated into iTunes in 2015 and streamed music is something that will continue to grow.
